Two new studios were constructed over a minimalist 1960’s single storey house. A dramatic structural ‘rib-cage’ of curved glulam beams is supported on mild steel ‘spine’. Set within a Surrey pine forest the materials were chosen to compliment their setting and require virtually no maintenance. The scheme has been extensively published and was awarded an RIBA design commendation.
